On Viber you can immediately check the online status of your friends and your friends can also check whether you're online or offline. You can actually appear offline by turning off "online" status in Viber app settings. However, many people don't know about this feature so they turn on aeroplane mode, turn-off Wi-Fi or mobile data so that they don't appear as online on Viber. Many people assume that if you're  appearing online on Viber, it means you are available for chat. However because we're constantly connected to the internet, we're always appearing as "online" on Viber and other messaging apps like Facebook Messenger and Whatsapp. This could be a hassle because people will want to chat with you even in you're work hours and you will be bombarded with Viber notifications. Of course you could always disable Viber notifications from Android settings but that could mean you'll miss some important/urgent messages. If you're simply appearing offline, people will send you messages but won't expect an immediate response.

Here are the steps to appear offline on Viber app for Android or iphones
screenshot of Viber Privacy settings- turning off online status
  • Open Viber
  • Tap on the menu icon on the top left (or swipe from left edge of the screen to the right)
  • Scroll down and tap "Settings" >> Tap "Privacy"
  • Now tap on "Share 'Online' Status" to appear offline

Once you disable your Viber Online status, you can change this settings only after 24 hours. Viber will notify you when you can change it. It is also a good idea to turn off "seen" status that appear below Viber messages after you've read them. Read: Hide 'seen' from messages read on Viber app

Whenever you open a Viber chat message, the sender will know that you've viewed the message because right below the Viber message, it will show "seen" status. There may be times where you are busy and have read the message but can't reply immediately but because it will show up as seen the sender may assume you are ignoring his/her message. So to save this unnecessary tension, you can disable or hide seen status from messages so that the sender won't know you've read the messages. Follow these short steps:

How to disable message seen feature on Viber messenger

  • Open Viber >> Open Menu (tap on the top left icon or swipe from left edge of the screen to the right)
  • Scroll down and select "Settings" >> Privacy
  • Tap on Send 'Seen' Status to remove the check mark. (Turning this setting off will hide others 'Seen' status from you)

Now whenever you receive a Viber message, you can open it and others will not know that you've seen the message. From the same settings you can also turn off your "online" status so that you can appear offline to others.

By default, photos and videos automatically load on Viber app for Android and iOS devices. While this is not a problem on Wi-Fi, it could get expensive when photos and videos are automatically downloaded when you're using mobile data connection. If you have mobile data on and someone shares a long video or a lot of pictures on Viber message, it may use up a huge chuck of your mobile data package. Fortunately, Viber allows you to stop auto-downloading of media files. With the auto-saving disabled, photos shared on Viber will no longer be saved on your Android Gallery and you wont have to worry about exhausting your mobile data. Another plus is that pictures from Viber will no longer take unnecessary space on your device storage. Here are the steps to disable auto-saving or loading of photos and videos on Viber messages:
