The Failed to Fetch error HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found..Some index files failed to download is a common error experienced by Cydia users running Evasi0n iOS 7 or iOS 8 on their jailbroken iPhones. The 404 error is the same error you get in your browser when a webpage is unavailable or nonexistent. In case of Cydia, the Fetch error is caused by server overload or when the default repositories are offline. So how to fix Cydia Failed to fetch error?

The solution for this error is quite simple. You just need to follow five simple steps below to delete the UltraSn0w repo hosted by Dev Team. This particular repo has been giving a lot of errors while running Cydia, and you dont really need it so you can simply remove it. In case you need it later, you can add it manually.

How to stop failed to fetch error in Cydia by removing UltraSn0w repo

  1. Open Cydia app >> Scroll to bottom of the screen, Tap Manage
  2. Press Sources (you will see a list of repos) >> Tap Edit (on the top-right corner)
  3. Next to Dev Team you will see the delete icon (red minus sign) >> Tap the delete icon
  4. Select Done (top-right corner of the screen)
  5. At the bottom select Changes tab and then select Refresh to refresh Cydia

Now you should no longer get the annoying failed to fetch error in Cydia. Now if you do want to add UltraSn0w repo back, you can follow similar steps below:

  1. Open Cydia app >> Scroll to bottom of the screen, Tap Manage
  2. Press Sources (you will see a list of repos) >> Tap Edit (on the top-right corner)
  3. Tap the add icon (upper left corner)
  4. Type "http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com"  in the repo address and select add source
  5. Select Done (top-right corner of the screen)
  6. At the bottom select Changes tab and then select Refresh to refresh Cydia
  7. Now the package will start downloading

Are you still getting the failed to fetch 404 error in the Cydia app of your iPhone ? If you know other methods or solutions please mention them in the comments.

You might have set your iTunes to automatically sync to your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. When that option is enabled, every time you plug your iDevice into the computer your app data starts syncing. Here is how you can stop or turn off auto sync in iTunes:
  1. Open iTunes on your PC or Mac
  2. From the top menu select iTunes >> Preferences (For Windows, Choose Edit >> Preferences)
  3. Go to "Devices" tab
  4. Check the box for "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically".

That's it. Now your iPhone or iPad won't sync automatically to iTunes.

After plugging in your iPhone, sometimes iTunes may not recognize it. The same thing might happen and your Mac or Windows PC stops recognizing your iPad and iPods. So how do you fix it? Before deeming it a hardware problem, make sure to check all the software related issues that might be causing this "failed to recognize device" error. There is actually long post by apple support on this but I don't think you need to read it all to fix this iPhone not recognized in iTunes problem.

How to fix iTunes not recognizing iPhone, iPad and iPod

  1. Reboot your iPhone and then connect it to iTunes
    • To reboot: Hold home button (round button at the end of the screen) + Sleep button (on top of phone) until you get passed "slide to switch off" message and see the Apple logo. Now let go of the buttons since your phone restarting.
  2. Check and Update iTunes to the latest version
  3. Disconnect device, restart your Mac or PC and then again re-connect
  4. Try a different USB port (will fix the problem in case of faulty port)
  5. Try a different USB cable
  6. Plug out device, uninstall  iTunes completely and then reinstall it
  7. If all the above fails, back up your stuffs and then factory reset your iPhone, iPad or iPod
    • Steps: Backup your device via iTunes or iCloud. Then on your device, go to Settings >> General >> Tap "Reset"  >> Tap "Erase All content and Settings". Wait for sometime until your device is restored to factory settings. Now you can restore from icloud or iTunes.

Well, I hope one of the above steps fixed your "iPhone-iPad-iPod not recognized on iTunes" issue. If you think this is a device problem, you can check by connecting it to a different computer. Sometimes it might be caused due to a fault connector which needs repairing. However, most of the time its just a small software glitch.
